This is an image of a dendritic cell taken at 100x magnification.
Dendritic cells are specialised cells in the immune system that help to coordinate our immune response to infections. The nucleus, which contains the genetic material, is stained in blue; MHC-II, a molecule that is used by the dendritic cell to communicate with other immune cells is stained in red, and; CD83, a molecule which is being investigated by our group as a potential therapeutic target for various diseases is stained in green.
The composite of the red and green results in the yellow colour that is seen in the image.
