DC Down Under 2013: Bench to bedside approach of Dendritic Cell Immunology

DC Down Under is an annual symposium organised by Dendritic Cell Research.

It has attracted a serious scientific following since it began. The Symposium showcases cutting edge dendritic cell (DC) immunology research and its clinical application. It provides an opportunity for young investigators and established leaders in the field to present their work in a professional yet intimate environment, ultimately, providing us with a selection of scientific presentations of the highest calibre.

It has become very relevant to developing collaborations and future scientific careers. The discussion of DC applications in cancer, transplantation and the autoimmune/inflammatory disease is particularly appreciated by attendees.

In 2013, the symposium was held on Thursday 15th – Friday 16th August 2013 at the Clinical Sciences Building, Concord Hospital. The DC Down Under Symposium 2013 focused on the bench to bedside approach of Dendritic Cell Immunotherapy, with a special focus on the clinical utility of Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells. The program was broken up into thematic areas that allowed researchers to see how basic DC biology has the potential to impact on direct health outcomes.

Symposium covered areas including clinical utility of DC, basic DC biology and model systems, as well as DC manipulation and clinical translation. In 2013, we were pleased to have Prof. Jolanda de Vries from the Department of Tumour Immunology at the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, as our international speaker.
